 | The
moon-viewing party takes place on the Magatama Pond in Geku on the evening with
a full moon in September. Priests recite a winning tanka, a Japanese poem of thirty-one
syllables, and a haiku in a resonant voice with the traditional Shinto rites.
Also, a traditional Japanese musical performance, bugaku, court dances and music,
and an open-air tea ceremony are held. Tea and sweets are offered, too.
